
Jess Wright Buha is an internationally-produced, award-winning playwright and audio dramatist.
Specializing in collaboration, innovation, and making Something out of Nothing, Jess Wright Buha is a Chicago-based writer comfortable in virtually any genre, including comedy (X-Men: Age of Orchis, Radio Mode), action-adventure (Munroe & Wagner), horror (Alabama Mermaid), educational (Powell Hall Playlist), and mysteries (Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of Portage Park). She has written a critically acclaimed audio drama for Marvel, and her work received the BBC Best Podcast Award in 2021 for Unwell: A Midwestern Gothic Mystery. Buha has had over forty stage plays produced, including literary adaptations of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina and Joyce’s Ulysses, by such companies as Lifeline Theatre, where she is an ensemble member, Filament Theatre, the Gift Theater, South Africa’s National Children’s Theatre, and many others. She has also written a variety of immersive theatrical experiences, physically spanning areas as small as one room or as large as the entire Portage Park neighborhood, and has performed several one-woman shows, such as Midnight Snacks with a Pregnant Lady, and Adventures in Breastfeeding, including a Live Demonstration of a Breastpump and Free Samples. Recently, she co-created and wrote the Soundlab series, four informational videos produced by the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra that have been used by elementary music educators around the world.
